Opposition Points

Lake Oaks Neighborhood Association, a leading local organization dedicated to preserving the community's quality of life, strongly opposes the proposed development outlined in the Master Lease Agreement and Conveyance of Improvements for Pontchartrain Beach. We raise significant concerns regarding crime, traffic and noise, infrastructure, and environmental impact associated with the proposed project.

Crime: The proposed development at Pontchartrain Beach raises serious concerns about public safety and crime rates in the surrounding area. Increased commercial activity and a higher influx of visitors could strain local law enforcement resources and potentially lead to an uptick in criminal activities. The safety of our residents and visitors must be our top priority, and this development puts that at risk.

Traffic and Noise: The influx of visitors, combined with the anticipated increase in vehicular traffic, will result in significant congestion and disruption to the daily lives of residents in the vicinity. The proposed development fails to address the necessary infrastructure improvements required to accommodate this surge in traffic, leading to prolonged traffic jams and a negative impact on the quality of life for residents.

Infrastructure: The infrastructure surrounding Pontchartrain Beach is ill-equipped to handle the demands of a large-scale commercial development. The proposed project lacks a comprehensive plan for upgrading roads, parking facilities, and public transportation systems. Without adequate infrastructure improvements, the development will place an undue burden on existing resources and negatively impact the quality of life for residents.

Environmental Impact: Pontchartrain Beach is a valuable ecological asset, and the proposed development jeopardizes its environmental integrity. The project's scale and the associated construction activities will have adverse effects on the natural habitats, local wildlife, and water quality. Failure to address these concerns adequately will result in irreversible damage to this delicate ecosystem.

Lake Oaks Neighborhood Association urges the Lakefront Management Authority and the Pontchartrain Beach Foundation to reconsider their plans and engage in a comprehensive and transparent dialogue with the community. The voices of residents and local stakeholders must be heard and considered to ensure responsible and sustainable development in our area.

We encourage concerned citizens and community members to join Lake Oaks Neighborhood Association in voicing their opposition to the proposed development at Pontchartrain Beach. Together, we can protect our community's well-being, preserve our environment, and maintain the unique character of our beloved city.
